After playing 15 matches and 11 innings in which he scored 356 runs at a strike rate of 176.24, Rinku Singh made his Twenty20 debut against Ireland in 2023.
In a criticism of the Indian selection committee, former cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth claimed that Rinku Singh, 26, was being used as a “scapegoat” by leaving him out of the 15-man team for the next World Cup 2024. After playing 15 games and 11 innings in which he scored 356 runs at a strike rate of 176.24, Rinku made his Twenty20 debut against Ireland in 2023. Against Afghanistan in January 2024, the left-handed hitter participated in his final 20-over game for India.
India’s T20 World Cup campaign will first out on June 5, 2024, against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Then, on June 9, 2024, the team will play their main match versus Pakistan at the same stadium. India’s next matches are against the USA on June 12 and Canada on June 15, respectively.
In an address on his official YouTube account, Srikkanth cited Rinku’s undefeated 69-run toss against the Afghan opposition in the third Twenty20 International. He also referred to the Indian selections as “rubbish” and attacked them.In South Africa, he has delivered game-winning hits. Recall the encounter with Afghanistan where Rohit scored a hundred goals? India went from being 22 for 4 to scoring 212. Rinku performed a pivotal Knock. Every time he took the field for India, he gave it his best. This is garbage, garbage choice. Why is 4 spinner needed? Must they all leave? Srikkanth remarked, “You have chosen to appease a select group of people and you have created a scapegoat out of Rinku Singh.”
The former captain of India went on to say that Rinku ought to have been included in the 15-man roster because he showed excellent performance at every occasion.
“I am really not content. All of you, hurry up. There has been talk about Rinku Singh everywhere. He has performed at every single chance that he has had. How could you let go of Rinku Singh? It makes no difference who you dump. “In my opinion, Rinku Singh ought to have been present, even if it meant letting go of Yashasvi Jaiswal,” he continued.
Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant are the two new wicketkeepers that India has recruited to their team. The team has also included star batsman Virat Kohli, who has been hammering home runs in the current IPL 2024.
As reserved players, Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed have been nominated.
India is paired with co-hosts the United States of America, Ireland, Canada, and bitter rival Pakistan in Group A of the ICC competition.
