Tim Southee will replace Kane Williamson as the captain of the BLACKCAPS Test team, taking up the captaincy duties. Williamson will continue to serve as the BLACKCAPS’ ODI and T20I captain and has expressed his desire to compete in all three international cricket competitions. When Southee captains the squad on this month’s Test visit to Pakistan, he will become New Zealand’s 31st Test captain. Southee has played in 346 international matches and has commanded the T20 side 22 times.
The team’s performance under his leadership in the longest and maybe most difficult version of the game has been nothing short of extraordinary. He is a fantastic leader.
According to statistics, he is the best Test captain we have ever had. This success culminated in the team reaching the top of the ICC Test rankings in the beginning of 2021 and winning the ICC World Test Championship Final in June of that year.
