After testing positive for Covid-19, Mohammed Shami’s return to T20I has been postponed, but Umesh Yadav will soon play again for India in white-ball cricket, three and a half years after his last appearance.
Umesh is receiving treatment at NCA for a quad injury he sustained while playing county cricket in England. The selectors have decided to give him a chance to prove himself in the three-match T20I series against Australia that begins the following week. He has been deemed fit.
Umesh last participated in a T20I match for India in February 2019 against Australia. He played his final ODI in 2018. He did, however, have a fantastic IPL this year. After the young group struggled to handle the pressure in the recently completed Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, the Indian team management and selectors have chosen to play it safe by bringing in experienced pacers.
Avesh Khan had received a year of attention from the team management, but he too seemed to have disappeared.
