Vinod Kambli, a former batter for India, lately gained attention because of his financial difficulties and ill health.

Due to his financial difficulties and ill health, former India batter Vinod Kambli has recently gained attention. Kambli, a childhood buddy of the great Sachin Tendulkar who represented India in 104 ODIs and 17 Test matches, has been battling a number of illnesses. Due to pains and a urinary infection, he was hospitalized to Akruti Hospital in Thane on December 21, 2024. In addition to his worsening health, Kambli is dealing with a severe financial situation. Former India batsman and well-known analyst Sunil Gavaskar offered support to Kambli throughout his difficult moments. In December 2024, when the memorial for the late coach Ramakant Achrekar was inaugurated at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, Gavaskar had promised to assist Kambli. The renowned batter has now finally delivered on his pledge, as Gavaskar is scheduled to provide Kambli with monthly assistance.

In addition to an annual medical support of Rs 30,000, Gavaskar’s CHAMPS Foundation will give Kambli a monthly payment of Rs 30,000, per a Times of India report cited by Times Now.

Additionally, Gavaskar and Kambli met in January at the 50th anniversary celebrations at the Wankhede Stadium.Andrea Hewitt, Kambli’s wife, disclosed earlier in January that she had originally filed for divorce in 2023 but changed her mind after witnessing her husband’s “helpless state.”

In an interview with freelance journalist Suryanshi Pandey, Andrea disclosed that she had considered leaving Kambli in the past but was always concerned about his well-being.”If I abandon him, he will be defenseless. I find it hurtful that he acts like a child. It worries me. Even though I wouldn’t abandon a friend, he is more than that. There were times, I recall, when I would simply leave. Then, though, I would worry: Has he eaten? Is he correctly on the bed? Is he all right? Then I would realize that he needed me and I would have to see how he was doing,” she added.
