The spin all-rounder, who was born in Agra, won the ICC monthly player award in December 2023 after taking 19 wickets and scoring 225 runs. Last week, she also received the BCC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2023 title.
On Monday, the Uttar Pradesh government bestowed a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) position upon the popular cricket player Deepti Sharma. Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, gave Deepti her appointment letter to the UP Police along with a cash reward of INR 3 crore.
The spin all-rounder, who was born in Agra, has been India’s best spinner for the past few years and has recently shown incredible form in all forms. She just received the BCCI’s Cricketer of the Year 2022–2023 award after winning the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award in December 2023.
Deepti revealed that she felt humbled by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s decision to bestow upon her a DSP job.
“Proud to have been appointed as a DSP in the UP Police and to have received recognition for my performance at the Asian Games from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Always appreciative ” Deepti wrote in her X post.
Last month, the left-handed batsman made history by hitting 87 runs and claiming nine wickets in a historic Test victory over England. After collecting 14 wickets in all formats against Australia, Deepti maintained her form and won the December 2023 ICC Cricketer of the Month award.
Deepti has played in 194 international matches since making her debut for the senior national team against South Africa in November 2014. Deepti, who is regarded as one of the best all-rounders of this generation, has amassed over 3,000 runs and taken 100 wickets in ODIs as well as T20Is.
She will next be seen competing for the Lucknow-based team UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League 2024, which gets underway on February 23.
