Vaibhav Suryavanshi is still breaking age records; before this, he was the youngest player to represent India U19 and compete in a Ranji Trophy match.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 13-year-old batting star, keeps breaking records. The left-handed batter, who became the youngest-ever player to be sold in an Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in November, when he was sold to the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.1 crore, has now become the youngest-ever Indian player to play a List A game, breaking a record that had stood for a quarter of a century. Suryavanshi broke the record when he made his Bihar Vijay Hazare Trophy (India’s domestic one-day event) debut against Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.
Suryavanshi, at 13 years and 269 days old, easily breaks Ali Akbar’s previous record established in the 1999/00 season, when the latter played for Vidarbha at the age of 14 years and 51 days.
Suryavanshi continues to smash age records, having previously becoming the youngest player to play in a Ranji Trophy game and represent India U19.
Suryavanshi’s debut, however, did not go as planned, as he was bowled for four runs in two balls. Suryavanshi was removed by Aryan Anand Pandey the next delivery after slamming the first ball for a boundary.Bihar could only manage 196, which Madhya Pradesh easily chased down. Rajat Patidar of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) scored a half-century, while Venkatesh Iyer of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) remained unbeaten to the conclusion.
Suryavanshi signed his first IPL contract in November, when he was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals, a former champion. At RR, he will be coached by famous Indian batsman Rahul Dravid.
Suryavanshi then went on to shine at the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup, scoring 176 runs in five games at an average of 76 and a strike rate of 145.
