Following their victories in the T20 World Cup in 2024, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from playing T20Is for India.

Prominent Indian players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are projected to remain on their A+ grade BCCI central contract list for 2025–2026, while Shreyas Iyer, who was previously dropped for allegedly missing domestic cricket, is anticipated to make a comeback. Despite Virat and Rohit’s retirement from the Twenty20 International format, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants to keep them on the A contract, which allows them to earn Rs 7 lakh. After India ended their ICC trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados last year, Rohit and Virat had their final dance in the format.Virat and Rohit will keep their A+ central contract (7 crore) even after they retire from the Twenty20 International s. They are important players and will receive the recognition they merit. Shreyas Iyer will soon return to his central contract, according to BCCI sources.

A modern-day white-ball cricket legend, Rohit has lost his allure and purple patch in every format. The veteran batsman has turned to silence after ending his Twenty20 International career on a spectacular fashion.Despite losing his flamboyance, the fiery opener only managed 91 runs at an average of 15.17 in three Test matches during India’s record 3-0 home series thumping of New Zealand.

When India played Bangladesh prior to the series defeat by the Kiwis, the explosive opener scored just 42 runs at an average of 10.50 in two Test matches.

Rohit’s poor performance in Test matches in Australia prompted criticism following a lackluster run at home. During the series, Rohit managed just 31 runs at a pitiful average of 6.20 in five innings.Players who came under scrutiny following the 1-3 series loss to Australia included Virat, who only managed 190 runs in 10 innings during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

With a century and two fifties to his credit, Virat finished the previous season with just 655 international runs in 23 games and 32 innings at an average of 21.83. 100* was his greatest score. However, despite being available, Shreyas and Ishan Kishan were removed from the BCCI’s central contract list for allegedly missing domestic cricket. Since then, Shreyas has shown a fiery form and put in a lot of work on the Indian domestic circuit.

Shreyas scored 480 runs in five games for Mumbai during his most recent Ranji Trophy campaign, averaging 68.57 and hitting at a robust rate of 90.22.Shreyas finished as the fourth-highest run scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 345 runs from nine games. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he showed off his prolific form by scoring 325 runs at an incredible average of 325.00 in five games.

He helped India win the Champions Trophy in February and finished the competition with 243 runs from five games, the most in the country.
