During a game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Harshit Rana caught and bowled Virat Kohli. Regarding whether or not the ball was legal, there is a lot of uncertainty.
Since Sunday, Virat Kohli’s dismissal off the bowling of Harshit Rana in Kolkata has been the most talked-about IPL incident. Harshit Rana caught and bowled Kohli during a match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Regarding the legality of the ball, there is a great deal of uncertainty. The former captain of the Royal Bengal Bengals, Virat Kohli, was so certain that the entire toss was a no-ball that he even yelled at the umpire. After the incident, Kohli was fined 50% of his match earnings.
The ball was dipping even as Kohli sought for a review; if he had been in his typical batting position, the ball would have eventually dropped below his waist since Kohli was standing outside his crease.
Following the incident, Mohammad Kaif, a former star of the Indian cricket team, criticized the umpiring in the 2024 IPL on Instagram.
“A ball that went beneath Dhoni’s bat is ruled wide after a clear, unplayable beamer removes Kohli from the game. Despite technology, cameras, and replays, blunders like this are still made. Inadequate officiating,” he commented on an Instagram post. Virat Kohli also liked the post.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) released a statement regarding Virat Kohli’s punishment for dissent. It stated: “Mr. Virat Kohli, Batter, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been fined 50% of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024…
According to Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, Kohli committed a Level 1 offense. He acknowledged the offense and consented to the Match Referee’s punishment. The Match Referee’s ruling is definitive and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct.”
