Virat Kohli has won the ICC Men’s One-Day International Cricketer of the Year award for 2023. Pat Cummins of Australia took up the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.
On Thursday, former India captain Virat Kohli won the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award for the 2023 season, adding another significant accolade to his already crowded trophy cabinet. The former Indian captain led the batting assault for Rohit Sharma’s Team India in the ICC World Cup 2023, capping off a fruitful campaign for the host nation. Kohli, the run-machine, pushed the Men in Blue to the final of the ICC tournament last year after shattering many records at home in the One Day International (ODI) World Cup.

The ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2023 Award shortlist had four players, including Kohli. Prior to Kohli, Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand, opener Shubman Gill, pacer Mohammed Shami, and opener Shubman Gill were all vying for the ICC trophy. In 27 games, superstar Virat Kohli amassed 1377 runs, claimed one wicket, and captured 12 catches for the two-time world champions. The 2023 World Cup saw the batting superstar conclude the competition as the top run scorer.

In 2023, Kohli continued his streak of scoring runs without restriction, having returned to his best in 2022. At the previous year’s ICC event, he was named Player of the Tournament. In nine of his eleven innings during the 50-over World Cup, he scored a half-century. The top batter in World Cup history amassed 765 runs, the most of any batter. In order to accomplish the unique accomplishment at the World Cup, Kohli overcame Sachin Tendulkar. Breaking a world record, Kohli became the first batsman to score fifty hundreds in an ODI. During the World Cup, Kohli averaged 95.62 and batted for India at a strike rate of 90.31. In the feature match, the master of batting scored three centuries.

The ICC announced Usman Khawaja as the Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year for 2023, honouring the top players in all forms of international cricket. For the ICC award, Khawaja defeated Joe Root of England, Travis Head, and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin of India. The ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2023 was awarded to top-ranked batsman Suryakumar Yadav, while the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year went to Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand. Australian captain Pat Cummins won the Sir Garfield Sobers award after leading the Test Team of the Year in 2023 after a trophy-filled campaign.
