Virat Kohli was removed from the Sunrisers Hyderabad game with just one run remaining after hitting his half-century in 37 deliveries.

Following the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on Thursday, Virat Kohli—a player who never fails to make headlines—became yet another talking point. A half-century from Kohli was a significant factor in the team’s victory. Had it not been for his 51-run knock, RCB might not have ended their six-game losing streak. However, Kohli’s consumption of 43 balls for his 51 runs once again became a topic of intense discussion on social media.

RCB won the toss and chose to bat first. Skipper Faf Du Plessis (25) and Virat Kohli got the squad off to a strong start in the powerplay. Rajat Patidar (50) breathed new life into the RCB batting after a sluggish start during the powerplay. Virat was dismissed for 51 in 43 balls, four boundaries and a six, unable to capitalise on his strong start during the powerplay. Despite some quick wickets, Cameron Green (37) and Swapnil Singh (12) helped RCB to 206/7 in their 20 overs.
The top bowlers for SRH were Jaydev Unadkat (3/30) and T Natrajan (2/39). Pat Cummins and Mayank Markande both claimed a wicket.
In the chase, SRH continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Except for Abhishek Sharma (31), none of SRH’s former superstars, such Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, or Nitish Reddy, had an influence. Skipper Cummins (31) and Shahbaz Ahmed (40) fought hard, but SRH were bowled out for 171 in 20 overs.
Green (2/12) and Karn Sharma (2/29) were RCB’s top bowlers. Swapnil Singh also captured two wickets for forty runs. Will Jacks and Yash Dayal also took wickets. With two victories, seven defeats, and four points, RCB is positioned at the bottom of the standings. With five victories, three losses, and ten points, SRH is ranked third.
