By contrasting Joe Root’s Test statistics with Virat Kohli’s, former England captain Michael Vaughan poked fun at Indian cricket supporters.

Joe Root, the top Test batter in the world, is currently going through a tough period in the format. On the opening day of the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s on Thursday, he achieved three figures, matching the record of 33 Test hundreds held by Alastair Cook for England. England’s first innings saw Root reach 143 runs off 206 balls before he was removed from the game. A day following his outstanding display, former England captain Michael Vaughan mocked Indian cricket supporters by drawing comparisons between Root’s Test statistics and Virat Kohli’s.

Good morning to all of you in Britain. We haven’t seen Virat in India in a very long time,” a fan commented.

“Joe Root will have to take two births to match Virat Kohli’s 80th international century,” stated another person.

“Joe root is just a home track bully without home Test hundreds and hundreds in the flat pitch he is just another Babar Azam,” was another of the remarks.

“It is not dishonorable to state that root is superior in Test cricket. As of the now, Virat plays in three formats, while Joe focuses mostly on the Test circuit,” a fan commented.

Root equaled the record of fellow former England captain Cook with 33 Test hundreds for his country, although in his 145th match as opposed to the retired opener’s 161 Test career total.

The 33-year-old Root also moved up to joint tenth position on the all-time list of Test century makers, which is topped by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar of India, who amassed 51 hundreds in 200 Test matches between 1989 and 2013.

Notably, out of all of these batsmen, only the 33-year-old Root is still playing cricket; the rest have all retired from Test duty.
