Wasim Akram dubbed Jasprit Bumrah the “best in the world,” implying that the Indian stalwart is superior than Pakistani pacers.
Jasprit Bumrah returned to form with the new ball as India faced reigning champions England in the Cricket World Cup 2023 game on Sunday. The star pacer took three wickets in the encounter, including Joe Root’s golden duck, laying the groundwork for India to win the high-profile match. Seeing Bumrah at his best, cricketing legend Wasim Akram showered praise on the India star, stating he is better than Pakistan’s fast bowlers.
Bumrah wasn’t a lock for the World Cup, having missed the majority of the previous year due to injuries. However, since making a comeback, the pacer has given new vigour to India’s bowling attack, consistently putting up strong performances. Bumrah wowed Akram so much that he dubbed him the ‘best pacer in the world’ right now. While Bumrah has frequently been likened to Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi, Akram appears to have put an end to that debate.
“Right now, he is the best in the world.” The top of the rung! Control, pace, and variations, all in all, a complete bowler.
It’s a pleasure to watch. “With the new ball, to get this kind of movement on this kind of pitch… pace, carry, follow-through… you name it, he’s a complete bowler,” Wasim remarked in an A-Sports discussion.
Wasim also said that Bumrah is better than him at handling the new ball.
“When Bumrah bowls to a left-hander from around the wicket and hits the ball on the seam… And if he bowls from outside the crease, the batsman will believe the ball is coming in. He will play for that angle, but the ball hits the pitch and moves away rather than coming in.Most of the time, you will be beaten. I couldn’t control the ball when I was bowling outswingers like that to right-handed batters with the new ball. But Bumrah obviously has better control with the new ball than I do,” Wasim added.
