England batsman Joe Root practised batting left-handed in his net session ahead of the second Test against India, which begins on Friday, February 2.
England’s Bazball revolution has allowed players to break free from the restrictions of traditional strokeplay. And, taking advantage of the flexibility, they have come up with a variety of improvements. Root has employed the reverse scoop on numerous occasions in recent years, a shot he did not have in his arsenal during his early years in baseball.
Root may be seen batting left-handed and attempting the reverse sweep shot in a viral video on social media. He did a good job of executing the shot. Check out this video clip:
Root was bowled by left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja in the first innings of the series opener in Hyderabad while trying the sweep shot. Despite Jadeja’s unavailability from the forthcoming Test due to injury, Root will still have to contend with Axar Patel’s left-arm spin and possibly even Kuldeep Yadav.
The star batsman has intensified his left-handed training in an attempt to counteract the ball turning away from him. This may be seen on the field during the upcoming Test match in Vishakapatnam.
