Despite India trailing Bangladesh 0-2 in the three-match ODI series, Washington Sundar is excited to put his skills to the test in the opportunities he is receiving, especially with the 2023 ODI World Cup in mind.
So far, the Indian cricket team’s tour of Bangladesh has been a disaster, with losses in the first and second ODIs of the series. Despite the fact that both matches were closely fought, the tourists were defeated on both occasions. India not only lost the second ODI, but also their captain Rohit Sharma, who suffered a thumb injury. With Rohit out of the third ODI, winning the series finale will be even more difficult.
Washington Sundar, who was present at the press conference on the eve of the third ODI, was asked about the “situation in the Indian dressing room.” While the question was understandably awkward given the recent results, Sundar handled it brilliantly.
“Every game is an opportunity to keep getting better and getting the right rhythm and performing well as a team. There aren’t going to be many games, so every game is very important for us. We are going to play good brand of cricket, we are going to keep improving no matter who we play. Our job is to play to our potential and to keep getting better wherever we have to,” Sundar said.
Sundar’s performances in the series are among the few bright spots for India since they arrived in Bangladesh. Sundar expressed his excitement about the opportunities he is receiving.
“It was a great opportunity for me last game. The World Cup is next year, and I want to be a player who can play in any situation, any combination, and wherever the team needs me to play. I want to win games for the team wherever they ask me to play. I want to contribute my potential to the team, keep doing better and getting better in every aspect of the game,” the all-rounder said.
After the third ODI, the Indian team will turn its attention to the Test series, which begins on October 14.
