“Need A Guy Like Him,” Says Former Sri Lanka Captain of “Different” Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav’s absence from the starting XI surprised him, but the former Sri Lankan skipper believes it demonstrates India’s excellent bench depth in white ball cricket.
Suryakumar Yadav’s absence from the starting XI surprised him, but former Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal believes it demonstrates India’s excellent bench depth in white ball cricket. With KL Rahul wearing the big gloves at No. 5 and Hardik Pandya an obvious pick at No. 6 as the pace bowling all-rounder, India’s one and only ‘Mr 360 degree’ will have to wait his turn, despite his outstanding performance in T20 cricket.
“Looking at this Indian team, it shows how much strength is there in the bench. I still feel Surya can play in the middle order in this Indian team,” Chandimal, who will be playing for Desert Vipers in the inaugural ILT20, told PTI in an exclusive interaction.
For Chandimal, Surya’s USP will always be his strike-rate and even a cameo of 30 or quick half-century from him can change the complexion of the game in no time.
“He is not like other hitters. In the middle-order, you need a person like him. He can change the game with just 30 to 50 runs. The pace with which he scores may irritate the other squad. I still believe he should play ODIs “said Chandimal, whose Test match winning century at Galle would live on in Indian fans’ nightmares.
After losing the series 2-0, Chandimal urges Dasun Shanaka and his team to play good cricket.
“It’s difficult to play India in India, but they should play well in every department.”
