Shannon Gabriel of the West Indies, who last participated in a Test match against India in 2023, has announced his retirement from international cricket after 12 years of playing mostly in Test matches. Gabriel finished his career with 202 wickets for the West Indies in international cricket, 166 of which came in Tests.

Shannon Gabriel, a West Indies bowler, has announced his retirement from international cricket after nearly 12 years with the national squad. Gabriel, who played 86 Test matches for the West Indies, was predominantly a Test match bowler known for hitting the deck hard and removing seam movement from the surface.

“During the past 12 years, I have dedicated myself to playing international cricket for the West Indies,” the 36-year-old wrote on Instagram to announce his retirement. “Playing this beloved game at the highest level has brought me immense joy, but as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.”

“I would like to express my gratitude to God for the numerous blessings and the opportunities my family and I have received during my time playing for the West Indies,” Gabriel added.

“Secondly, the administration, coaches, and staff of Cricket West Indies have my sincere gratitude. There aren’t enough words to express how grateful I am for all of your efforts and support throughout the years. Not to mention, I want to express my gratitude to all of my teammates and those who have helped and encouraged me along the journey. You’ve really added something special to my ascent to the top.”
