Virat Kohli, India’s star batter, has dismissed comparisons to Sachin Tendulkar, saying that no player should be compared to the cricket icon. Many people believe Kohli will surpass Tendulkar’s century total.
Despite recognising why people draw comparisons between both of them, Indian star batter Virat Kohli has said that he gets uncomfortable when he is compared to cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.
For the majority of his playing career, Kohli has been compared to Tendulkar, with many predicting that the current Indian star will surpass Tendulkar’s score of 100 international hundreds.
According to the Hindustan Times, Kohli told Robin Uthappa on Jio Cinema that he wasn’t the best at taking things by storm or making things happen.
“I always tell people that I had talent, but the most complete or wasn’t someone who made you go ‘oh my god, that’s unbelievable.'” I was good and could accomplish a little bit with my skill, but I wasn’t the most gifted man around when it came to taking things by storm or making things happen.I was determined from a young age, but I have no qualms about stating that I never imagined being here at 34 in this scenario,” Kohli remarked.
Kohli went on to argue that no one should be compared to Tendulkar or Sir Vivian Richards since they revolutionised the game.
“I’m embarrassed when I’m compared to Sachin, but I understand where these people are coming from with all those statistics and stuff.” However, these statistics portray a different narrative. The influence a player has on you as a youngster varies greatly. I always laugh it off. “These people know nothing about the game,” Kohli remarked.
“Sachin Tendulkar has always been an emotion for me, if you speak to anyone, they look at him as their own because everyone has faith and trust in him, he was a source of inspiration and comfort, when he scored runs, life was good,” Kohli continued. “Nobody should be compared to Sachin and Viv Richards because they revolutionised the game in their era and the belief people had in them was rare, it is rare to have that belief in one player.”
