Djokovic said he wants to focus on the aim of encouraging more kids to play tennis in India.
In an interview with Sania Mirza, Novak Djokovic expressed his desire for young Indian children to pursue a career in tennis.
“I wish to be part of some programs designed particularly for the development of kids in their early childhood because that is something, I’m very passionate about,” he went on to say.
“This is also the cornerstone of our foundation. I’d like to see more children pick up a racquet and play tennis. “As a tennis player, seeing that happen will make me happy,” he remarked.Djokovic expressed his respect for Indian cricket player Virat Kohli in a previous interview.
“I feel I have a special bond with India.” I adore the people there; they have been incredibly kind to me and are among the most sincere and compassionate people on the planet. They enjoy sports, the most popular of which being cricket. But, as far as I can tell, tennis is also very popular across the country.”He also mentioned an exhibition match he played in 2014 in New Delhi alongside Roger Federer and other tennis legends.
“Hopefully, there are many years ahead of me so that I can spend more time in your beautiful country and we can work on the mission of empowering more kids to take up tennis,” he said.On Sunday, Djokovic will face Adrian Mannarino of France in the fourth round of the Australian Open 2024.
