On Day 2 at stumps, Yashasvi Jaiswal was batting against Australia with 90 runs from 193 balls.

On Day 2 of the first Test match against Australia, Yashasvi Jaiswal looked like a guy on a mission for India. Despite his strong defense, he was reluctant to take chances against players like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. He also had some sly retorts to Australian bowlers in between. Yashasvi Jaiswal was hitting 90 from 193 balls at stumps on Day 2. Two sixes and seven fours were hit during his innings. Jaiswal currently has 34 sixes in 2024, which is the most any player has ever hit in Test history, after hitting two sixes.

Most sixes in a calendar year in Tests
34 – Yashasvi Jaiswal (2024)
33 – Brendon McCullum (2014)
26 – Ben Stokes (2022)
22 – Adam Gilchrist (2005)
22 – Virender Sehwag (2008)

Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, the openers, hit unbeaten half-centuries in the second innings to help India to a dominant 172 for no loss at stumps on the second day of the first Test match here on Saturday. In the morning session, the visitors took a 46-run lead after dismissing Australia for 104 in 51.2 overs. Jaiswal (90 not out, 193 balls) and Rahul (62 not out, 153 balls) then scored freely as the visitors positioned themselves in a solid position by increasing their lead to 218 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah, a bowler, bowled out Australia shortly after hitting the century mark at lunch, completing his 11th five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Mohammed Siraj (2/20) and Harshit Rana (3/48) also contributed, but Bumrah (5/30) was India’s best bowler.

Australia’s overnight score of 67 for 7 was reached with just 37 more runs thanks to tail-ender Mitchell Starc (26), who was the team’s top scorer. It was a complete surrender.

Brief scores: Australia: 104 all out in 51.2 overs (Alex Carey 21, Mitchell Starc 26; Jasprit Bumrah 5/30, Harshit Rana 3/48, Mohammed Siraj 2/20) against. India: 150 & 172 for no loss in 57 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 90, KL Rahul 62).
