Yashasvi Jaiswal had a chance to hit a century in the fourth Twenty20 International against Zimbabwe, but Shubman Gill took the offensive in the last stages of the run chase, leaving Jaiswal unbeaten with 93 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opening batsman for India, disclosed that he and captain Shubman Gill were concentrating more on the team’s success than individual scores as they batted in the fourth Twenty20 International against Zimbabwe, hoping to win without losing any wickets. Chasing 153, Jaiswal and Gill went to work, destroying the total in 15.2 overs. This was only the second time that India had defeated Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in a Twenty20 international on Saturday. Jaiswal said to a gathering of supporters following the game, “We were only thinking about finishing the game and making sure that the team wins and we finish without any loss (of a wicket),” in a video released by the BCCI.
Even though the victory gave India an unstoppable 3-1 lead in the five-match series, Jaiswal, the more aggressive player in the duo, was still undefeated at 93 off 53 balls with 12 fours and two sixes. In the last moments of the game, when Jaiswal was seven runs short of his ton, a supporter asked him what he had discussed with Gill.
“We were just thinking about winning the game,” Jaiswal stated. I had a great time playing today, especially with Shubman bhai. I also really loved scoring the runs. I truly enjoy and feel proud whenever I play for India,” he continued.
