Younis Khan has been appointed as Afghanistan’s Champions Trophy coach. Younis Khan, the former Pakistan captain, will return to Afghanistan as a mentor for the Champions Trophy in 2025. Younis previously worked with Afghanistan in 2022, at a 15-day training camp in Abu Dhabi with a larger group of 25.
Younis Khan, a former cricket player for Pakistan, was named the Afghanistan men’s team’s coach on Wednesday for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.For the competition, which begins on February 19, Afghanistan has been placed in Group B alongside South Africa, Australia, and England. The team will play games in Lahore and Karachi.
Younis played in 118 Test matches for Pakistan, scoring over 10,000 runs, and appeared in 265 ODIs, scoring over 7,000 runs.
It was necessary to designate a skilled and seasoned player from the host nation to serve as mentor because the Champions Trophy is being held in Pakistan. We already had successful experience hosting nations’ mentors for the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20I World Cup.
