In addition to preventing Ashraf from making any significant financial choices, the government’s inter-provincial coordination committee urged Ashraf to postpone this week’s PCB management committee meeting in Karachi.

Zaka Ashraf resigned as interim head of the Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday, just days after the government prevented him from holding a meeting.

This week, Ashraf was prevented from making any significant financial decisions and was requested by the government’s inter-provincial coordination committee to postpone a meeting of the PCB management committee in Karachi.

On Friday, though, Ashraf called a special meeting of the 10-person management committee in Lahore and declared his resignation.

The cricket board released a statement saying, “He (Ashraf) thanked members of the MC, the PCB management, and staff for their support during this tenure.” “The Chairman MC was thanked by members of the MC and the PCB management for his leadership.”

In July, Ashraf took over as head of the management committee, succeeding Najam Sethi. The government gave Ashraf till February 4th to set up a board of governors and plan the PCB chairman election, but he was unable to do so.
Under Ashraf, the men’s team for Pakistan produced performances that were below average. Both both the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the Cricket World Cup in India, the team failed to go past the group round.

After the World Cup, Babar Azam withdrew as captain of both forms, and Ashraf summoned coach Grant Bradburn and team director Mickey Arthur to report to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. Both foreign coaches subsequently resigned.

Australia thrashed Pakistan 3-0, with Shan Masood, the new test captain, leading the way. The last Twenty20 encounter of the five-match series in New Zealand is scheduled for Sunday. Twenty20 captain Shaheen Shah Afridi is already behind 4-0.
