Arsenal crashed out of the EFL Cup 2022-23, losing at home to Brighton and Hove Albion in the third round. Mikel Arteta rotated the lineup, giving starts to Reiss Nelson, Fabio Vieira and other youngsters. The Gunners started in fine fashion, taking the lead in 20th minute through Eddie Nketiah. Brighton equalised seven minutes later through a penalty from Danny Welback. The former Arsenal man won the penalty and converted it from the spot to make it 1-1. In the 58th minute, Kaoru Mitoma struck an accurate shot past Hein in the bottom right corner. Brighton got the second goal against the run of play, causing disruption to Arsenal’s plan. In the 71st minute, Brighton broke on the break with Billy Gilmour slipping a tidy pass for Tariq Lamptey who struck the ball neatly and found the back of the net. A clinical performance from the Seagulls saw them advance to the fourth round whereas Arsenal must now aim to get back to winning ways in the Premier League clash against Wolves.
