Chennai Super Kings defeats Gujarat Titans and go to Final

After winning the IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 match on Tuesday at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai by a margin of 15 runs over Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings advanced to their record-extending 10th IPL final.

The last time MS Dhoni’s team advanced to the championship game was in the 2021 season, when they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders to win their fourth championship in Dubai. CSK entered the summit match this time after suffering its second-worst IPL season, finishing ninth out of 10 teams in the 2022 competition.

On Tuesday, Ruturaj Gaikwad top-scored with a superb 60, Ravindra Jadeja (22 and 2 for 18) starred with the bat and ball, and Deepak Chahar took important wickets of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill to propel the Super Kings to a historic triumph in front of their home supporters.

Chennai Super Kings’ first victory over Gujarat Titans. GT has won all three of their previous meetings with the Super Kings.

Deepak dismissed Chahar Wriddhiman Saha in the third over of Gujarat Titans’ chase, giving them an early lead. In a high-pressure game, Hardik Pandya came in at No.3, but he was quickly replaced by Maheesh Theekshana as GT struggled in the Powerplay. The onus was now on Shubman Gill, who had struck two hundreds in a row before to the first qualifier.

CSK 172/7 (20)

GT 157 (20)
