Axar Patel has been named the team’s vice-captain for the upcoming season.

In the absence of regular skipper Rishabh Pant, David Warner will lead the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. Due to the severe injuries sustained in the accident in which Pant was involved, he will miss the entire IPL 2023 in December 2022, and the Australian stalwart will lead the franchise.

While Warner has been named captain, Indian all-rounder Axar Patel will serve as his deputy. Axar has been in excellent form across all formats, particularly in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. Axar Patel has emerged as a top all-rounder who can contribute with both the bat and the ball.

The Delhi Capitals signed him for INR 6.25 crore after he was released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad prior to the IPL 2022 mega auction. He lived up to the team’s expectations and did an outstanding job as the opener. Warner scored 432 runs in 12 games last season, including five half-centuries, and had his best score of 92*(58) against SRH.

Warner has been a part of the Indian Premier League for over a decade, appearing in 13 tournaments. Warner also has experience leading an IPL franchise, having served as captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad and led the team to their first IPL title in 2016. The franchise has yet to make an official announcement regarding this.

“David will be our captain, and Axar Patel will be his deputy,” a member of the Delhi Capitals ownership group said.
