After a three-day break, India pacer Umesh Yadav will rejoin the team in Indore. The BCCI extended the pacer’s contract because he lost his father on Thursday. On Friday, Yadav completed his father’s final rights in Nagpur. After a lengthy illness in a city hospital, his father died in Nagpur. While the India cricket team began assembling today, Umesh will arrive a few days before the third Border Gavaskar Trophy Test.

“It’s very difficult for Umesh. His father inspired him and encouraged him to play cricket. Umesh holds his father in high regard throughout his cricket career. He will obviously have as much time as he needs to recover from this devastating loss and rejoin the team when he is ready. He is available for selection in the third Test, and we hope to have him join us next week,” said a senior BCCI official.

Despite being a member of the team, Umesh Yadav has yet to play a match in the series. In spin-heavy conditions, Rohit Sharma relied on only two seamers, Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj. However, this could change in Indore.

The pitch at Holkar Stadium will be conducive to pace and bounce thanks to the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association bringing in red soil to prepare it. This could lead to Team India selecting a third seamer. Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, and the in-form Jaydev Unadkat will compete for the remaining spots.
