The Royal Challengers Bangalore paid a whopping INR 3.4 crore for her services.
Smriti Mandhana, India’s vice-captain and star cricketer, has joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore after the franchise purchased her for a whopping INR 3.4 crore in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction. She was, interestingly, the first name in the auction pool, having placed herself in the highest bracket of INR 50 lakh in the marquee player’s set.
The Mumbai Indians and the Bangalore franchise triggered a bidding war for the star player, resulting in a massive bidding war. RCB deliberated and improved its bid to eventually acquire the services of the Mandhana for a whopping INR 3.4 crore, which was also the highest bid in the first two rounds of the auction.
Meanwhile, the Indian team’s opening batter, who had been watching the auction from South Africa, was overjoyed after being picked up by the RCB side. Mandhana was seen hugging her India teammates, who also congratulated her on her new venture, after joining the Bangalore-based franchise. The Indian team is currently in South Africa preparing for the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup.
