‘Some things in life are more important than cricket,’ says Jason Gillespie, recommending that Pat Cummins miss the remaining series.

Gillespie believes Australia will be fine without Cummins because Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green are expected to return for the third Test.

Pat Cummins, Australia’s captain, will miss the third Test against India after extending his stay in Sydney due to his mother’s need for palliative care. The series finale is also in doubt for the influential pacer, and former Australian cricketer Jason Gillespie expects Pat Cummins to miss the rest of the series.

Jason Gillespie, a member of the Australian team that defeated India in the subcontinent Test series, believes that nothing is more important than family. He believes Cummins should spend more time with his family now that India has reclaimed the Border Gavaskar Trophy after winning the first two matches.

“Pat Cummins is a great bowler, no doubt, but some things are more important in life than a game of cricket. It wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t see him again on this tour. With all due respect, the series is over, we can’t win it, and there are more series coming up this year… Moving forward, it could be an excellent opportunity for Pat Cummins to spend quality time with close family and friends.

“What’s more important, spending time with your close family and friends and particularly your mum who’s gravely ill, or the fourth Test of a series that you’ve already lost? He’s already missing the third Test, so it’s a no-brainer for me. It wouldn’t surprise me if behind the scenes they’ve already said to Pat, we don’t need you here in India for this Test series.
